I lived next to a Ukrainian stronghold in NYC. The food was superb. They had a major festival once a year. I knew not much about Russia or the Ukraine. It was the period of Soviet domination. A Chinese friend ask me where Kiev was. There were Kiev signs all over the place. I told her someplace in Russia but I did not know where. A discussion of Chicken Kiev at the Russian Tea Room followed. A Ukrainian girl blurted out that Kiev was in the Ukraine. I yelled that they should not spend any good money on freedom fighters. There was a Ukraine in a few years. It is sad.

by Terry inlet's start with a very basic common sense question.. if you needed surgery would you go to a graduate of medical school who had been practicing for awhile,.
or would you go to an amateur who told you god would be telling him how to peform surgery?.

Do they have any special knowledge from research? How about business skills? Perhaps the lawyers are running the place.

I read but I do not know Koine Greek. Reading the entire Bible is useless. The books were written by themselves. It wasn't the way the Witness taught. They won't acknowledge discrepancies. Why are there four gospels if only one counts? I learned to ask hard questions. When I started reading the NT for a course, I thought it would be very easy for me after all my Witness suffering. It was not easy.

Egoism, nationalism and shunning are all one
by Pinku inbible contrasts egoism with spirituality.
(galatians 5:25, 26) another famous scripture calls it as mental disease as egoist acts against the known facts and an ocean of experience.
when one makes entry into this world, he depends on others, does so even more during his infancy, childhood, and adolescence.

This sounds a bit of the different stages of life in Hinduism. The final stage means giving away everything you own and begging.

May ask you for support of your statement in the news reports? During my pain battle, I made a point of weeding out certain doctors. I was in my thirties. There was a major law firm behind me. Some doctors truly believe they are God. The good ones reveal doubts. They desperately wanted me to know the science. In America, if you have money, you can switch doctors easily. Insurance allowed for passes at that time.
In New York, there would be a nurse or social worker with the doctor to smooth the way for the family. I would be wary of JW parents were I a doctor. If you think doctors aren't going to wonder even more about Witnesses after this case...We don't know if elders put in appearances. There are channels within a hospital. There are channels outside of a hospital. I've never had a terminal child so I don't know how I would act.
We will probably never know what happened. The doctor could have been liable.

Are we imperfect from birth?
by Pinku inare we imperfect from birth?.
there may be some scriptures that say we are imperfect from birth because of (fictitious) adams sin.
such verses make no sense like many other prima-facie meaningless verses such as joshua 10:13; isaiah 40:26; john 3:13;11:26 ........ however, there are scriptures that say we are capable of displaying perfection which is already within us.

I was talking to a priest about Ransom and Jesus, the perfect man. He told me that the English is an older usage. Perfect means complete. It is not getting 100% on some test. It never made sense about Adam and Eve. God gave Eve the intelligence to understand. The idea of a ransom makes me furious. Passing down curses through generations is barbarous. When I was at Witness meetings, all humans were so evil b/c of something Adam. perhaps a Neanderthal, did. The biology does not work. God said his creation was good.
My personal belief is that most humans are good. Listen to music or go see a masterpiece. I don't understand the focus on badness. God needs to grow up.

The Great Crowd Catch 22
by Perry injust had a two hour conversation with my father.
he is insistent that he will be able to enter the kingdom of god as a member of the 'great crowd'.
he did agree that only the annointed are declared righteous.

Perry,
You have so many details worked out. Most people see contradictions. The gospels are not uniform. Perry, your trouble is that, unlike the rest of the Bible, most of us here have read the text. The text reveals no uniform belief. They argued among themselves. Revelation negates Paul. John is different from Mark, Matthew, and Luke. Sad.

I used to go inside a Christian book store. It only contained anabaptist books. I could have written most of them with little effort. There were no books suitable for a college or grad school course. I have read the NT and the "hotter" OT books. Leviticus always drove me crazy.

Silly me. I was in a group with a Witness this year. She was African-American. I did not believe her at first b/c she said church, her hair was coiffed beauitfully, her nails were gel, etc. She wore clothes that were form-fitting. It was hard to look at her and hear Witness junk. She bragged about her family not using Western meds. She never said "Witnesses don't take medicine." It was always her family.....I finally told her it was a cult if it were the Witnesses then she was so heated I knew she was a Witness. The elders must be after her all the time. I thought she was a liberal Baptist.
She bragged about never taking Western meds. I recall Western medicine was never praised. Better to die. My family took Western meds. I don't run into people who won't take Western meds. I do run into people who truly believe they know more than MD from casual Internet research. I've had people with no high school degree scream at me about law. She became very ill and decided to try western meds which helped her immensely. The elders gave her a rouough time. I recall aspirin being passed around during field service.
You know what the Witnesses are saying about the child. Go out in field service! I would want my child to die at home. Also, I am only alive today b/c I had family support and a legal income. I had to research on my own, knowing that I could not understand the context, travel all over, play politics with doctors. My education was essential. I only had hope and choice b/c of a good income. We said this about Steve McQueen. No one understood how such a mind with such connections could believe in laeterile. Well, your attitude changes when it is you.

I stumbled upon this. He reviews a new book by a prominent atheist. The piece is about faith. Chicken and Egg. Do we experience a spiritual experience and then derive faith from it or does the opposite happen. My browser will not let copy and paste. A link is on the front cover of the NYT.
